Pear & Vanilla Bean Honey

Updated On: Apr 26, 2024

My favorite recipe for Pear & Vanilla Bean Honey. If ever there was “crack” in a jar, this would be it. So delectable that you’ll find it hard to eat it on anything other than a spoon. Fresh pears, vanilla beans, and sugar is all you need to make this delicious Pear jam.

Do you have a recipe that just never fails you?  One that’s so good that you crave it just by uttering the words?  Pear & Vanilla Bean Honey does just that to me.  The mere thought of its deliciousness draped over a bagel or English muffin makes my heart beat fast and my salivary glands start workin.  This is one recipe that is tried and true and if you love pears, then you will adore it.  Maybe even crave it.  I hope you do.  If you make extra, I can send you my address.

Ingredients you’ll need to make Pear Honey

  • Ripe pears
  • Water
  • Granulated sugar
  • Vanilla bean
  • Fresh lemon juice

How to make pear preserves

Cut off the tops of the pears where the stem end is and then quarter them.  Because you’re going to run them through a food mill, there’s no need to core them. In to the pot with 1/2 cup of water and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the pears are soft. Cook until they are super tender and almost fall apart when touched with a spoon.

Using a food mill will create a nice fine pear sauce.  Put it back into a clean pot and add 1 cup of sugar. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and then using the backside of the knife, run it down the inside of the bean pod to remove the glorious seeds.  Repeat with the other side of the pod.

Add to the pear mixture and toss in the pods if you’d like. At this point you’ll want to smell your hands.  Yes you read that right.  They will be scented with Vanilla Perfume! Add a tablespoon of lemon juice and crank the heat.  Boil vigorously for 20-25 minutes.  The mixture will start to change from a yellowish color to a golden honey color.  That’s when you’ll know it’s done.

Remove the vanilla bean pods and let it cool, stirring occasionally.  Use 2 1/2 pint jars that have been sterilized and cap tightly.  This Pear & Vanilla Bean Honey is phenomenal on ice cream or on an English muffin or on a large spoon (my preferred method).  Enjoy!!

I make mine with the peels. I make chocolate pear jam with the pear slices left over from the peels. I’ve made pear honey with vinegar fro a. Cookbook from 1902. I dint care for that one much. Then I tried it your way. This fall I made it from peels. Amazing.

  3. This sounds divine….I can’t wait to try it. I bought some pears at the produce market and vanilla bean at the grocery. I have a question though. Does it freeze well or can you preserve it by canning?
