When it comes to guacamole, I am somewhat of a purest.  Don’t get me wrong if you put a bowl of fancy pants guac in front of me, I will put the hurt on it, but when I make it at home, the simpler the better.  My recipe is easy to make with ingredients you most likely have in your fridge and pantry.

You may be asking yourself: “Self, why did she leave the pit in the guacamole?”.  Well here’s your answer – Avocados contain an enzyme called polyphenol oxidase, which when in contact with oxygen in the air, causes avocados to turn brown.  Read more at HuffPost Taste .

Ingredients

Simple ingredients make the best guacamole. Avocados are so creamy on their own that they really just need a few extras to make them shine.

  • Avocados – 3 ripe avocados
  • Garlic – fresh is best, but you can also use a good quality granulated or powdered garlic
  • Tomatoes – chopped fresh tomatoes are optional, but add texture to the creamy guac
  • Cilantro – fresh minced cilantro is always a great guac add in
  • Lime – fresh squeezed lime juice will keep the guacamole from turning brown and adds the necessary hit of acid
  • Red Pepper Flakes – optional, but delish in my opinion
  • Kosher Salt

Since you love the avo sandwich with mayo…try whipping in a little mayo into your guac. It also helps keep it green and tastes awesome.

I’m such a guacamole fan. I honestly cannot ever turn it down. EVER. In fact, my daughter is the same. She takes little snack packs of guac to school at least 3 times a week. Can’t wait to try yours
