Dreams of Missed Trains

by FarmgirlGourmet April 7, 2011
Last night I had this crazy vivid dream.  I was chasing a train like the drawing above.  It was zooming away just out of my reach and I was so angry and disappointed in myself for missing it.
Do you ever have dreams where you wake up and it fells like the movie just ended and the credits are rolling and you just finally figured out the plot from the past 1 1/2 hours of watching it?  Well, that’s me today.  I immediately started trying to decipher the meaning of it all.  Here’s what I have come up with so far:
Train = Opportunities
Me Running = I didn’t take the opportunity when it was handed to me on a silver platter and now I need to chase it to catch up.
I know – whoop dee doo!  I think having to work for the opportunities makes you stronger at what you really want in life.  Having things handed to you doesn’t always result in amazingness.  Although, sometimes it’s quite nice.  Ok, so let me break it all down because you’re probably wondering what train (opportunities) I’m talking about.
Back in 2005, when I started this blog, there were some other newbie bloggers doing the same thing.  You may know and follow them as well.  They were small fries just like me.  Today, on the other hand, they have multiple book deals and are cooking for Matt Lauer on the Today Show.
In 2007, I was presented with a ground breaking opportunity to build a team of mentors who would motivate people to be fit.  The stipulation?  Workout, be in the best shape of my life and motivate others to do the same.  Sounds tough!  The cost was $14 a month.  Wow – break the bank.  Did I do it?  Nope.  Now said mentors are making 6 figure incomes and have built an empire – or Army as they like to call it.  That was a 100,000 car train that was missed!

The point?
Had I stuck to my guns and pursued these “trains”, would I be rubbing elbows with the creme de la creme?  Would I be flying here and there and signing my John Hancock for my giddy fans?  Would I be super fit with hoards of followers who were making their dreams come true by following my example?  Maybe, maybe not.  But one will never know.
So I guess where I’m going with all of this is that sometimes you miss the train.  And it sucks.  And you feel mad or sorry for yourself.  Jealous of others opportunities and fortunes that could’ve been your own.  But the best way to look at it all is that there will be another “train”.  There always is.  You just have to be ready when it hits the station to jump on board and head to that destination called “Land of Opportunity”.
Keep your eyes and ears open at all times.  You don’t want to miss the train!
Happy Thursday!
Choo choo!

It looks like you did ‘catch’ the opportunity..being there for your family on a daily basis…especially while your kids are young….a real treasure there! Many more opportunities are there for such a talented and creative person like you and when you are ready…they will land in your lap!

Oprah says Success is when opportunity and preparation meet…I think maybe the right opportunity is coming not passed…Thank you for reminding me to take the leap of faith when the leap is there. Rock on Heather!

If you had caught either of those trains, you would not be the wonderful person you are, now. You have made an impact to and for so many around you. Rejoice in that!

I know that feeling! Well, kind of. Never anything spectacular like your train experiences, but I do know what it feels like to miss some small things in life, but here is what I have to say about your missed opportunities….

Had you caught your train in 2005 or 2007 we probably never would have met! I know, I know millions and fame would probably fill the small hole of not knowing the Denton Fam, but I know our move to Cheney wouldn’t have been as warm, friendly or humorous! We certainly would miss not having you in our life! 🙂

Love you Heather! Oh and I’m sure Taylor and Makenna would love you John Hancock! They’ll put it next to their Mickey and Minnie autographs!
