Staying at the Top of the Heap

by FarmgirlGourmet March 30, 2011

Have you ever heard of SEO?  Ya, me neither until just recently.  It’s Search Engine Optimization.  In other words, it’s how you, as a website or blog, get found by someone searching for “_________” on Google, Bing or Yahoo, etc.

Some food bloggers have it all figured out and are appearing at the top of the search results, even above the heavy hitters like FoodNetwork.com & Allrecipes.com.  How they’ve done it?  I don’t know the specifics but they have obviously mastered the art of SEO.  I, on the other hand, don’t have a team of computer whiz kids hiding in my basement here at FG Headquarters.  Just little old me.  So not only do I cook up something for this blog on a daily basis, write, do my motherly/wifely duties, Mom taxi my kiddos here there and everywhere etc, I also get to be “SEO Girl”.  Sound like fun?  Well, to keep this blog as relevant and accessible as possible I have to figure it all out.

So on my road to SEO savvyness you may notice in future posts that there will be a change in the format of the recipes.  No biggy, really, just fancy shmancy words like “ingredients” and “instructions” will be added.  These words get “crawled” by the Google bots for their new recipe search drill down.  Did you just hear me say “The words get blah blah blah blah blah blah”?  Ya, that’s what I thought.  It’s all a bit much if you ask me, but what’s a girl to do but adapt!
